Babes With Blades Shakes Up Shakespeare
This week I got to talk to Hayley Rice (she/her), the artistic director of Babes With Blades Theatre Company. BWB is based in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago and was established 23 years ago by theatre artist Dawn "Sam" Alden. The company focuses on gender and racial diversity and inclusivity in their work. The plays BWB produces always feature stage combat, hence their company name. Rice and I discussed her directing style and performing Shakespeare with an emphasis on inclusion and diversity. You can listen to some clips of our conversation below!
